A provocative argument that will stir up conservatives and annoy liberals.
By Gerard Baker ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 12, 2023
Former editor-in-chief of the Wall Street Journal, Gerald Baker, has written a book that contributes to the discussion of why American society is in such a mess. He claims to be nonpartisan, but his views are more in line with traditional conservatism. He is critical of Donald Trump and his supporters, but also of the progressive ideologies that have taken hold in American institutions in the last three decades. He is particularly critical of the media, which he believes has abandoned objectivity and instead works to actively change the world. He also takes aim at universities, which he believes are dominated by liberals who stifle free speech. Baker’s chapter on the medical profession is less effective, as it is reminiscent of Trump’s views on the pandemic. He argues that quarantines are unnecessary and that vaccines should be voluntary. He believes that the solution lies in the American people, who he believes still value traditional American values and ideals. He also believes that climate change is real, but that it has been overblown and has become a new global religion. In conclusion, he calls for the reassertion of American sovereignty.
