Sworn enemies Sarah Webb and Brian Hawkins, who have been at odds since Sarah became best friends with Jess, Brian’s sister, in college, find themselves in a precarious situation in this romantic comedy. Both Sarah and Brian have been proposed to by their respective partners, Tyler Ackerman and Hannah Abbott-Thorne, but they both reject the proposals and end up in Jess’ guest bedroom. Despite their animosity, they can’t deny the mutual attraction between them. When Sarah needs a date for a work gala to avoid humiliation by Tyler, she chooses Brian as her escort. This leads to a kiss, but Sarah, worried about her friendship with Jess, puts a stop to it. As the story progresses, other potential partners and distractions enter the picture, as well as other threads such as Brian’s desire to return to New York City and Sarah’s need to still work with Tyler. Both characters have some humanizing quirks, but neither feels particularly unique. Despite this, Dembowski ensures the intimate scenes hit their marks, conveying two people who ultimately care deeply about each other. This romantic comedy shows that sworn enemies may not be so different after all.
