This book may not be as powerful as it could have been, but it is still an engaging and suspenseful read.

In 2086, the effects of global warming have caused catastrophic flooding, displacing hundreds of thousands of people, including Marg Bernard and her family. Marg and her children, Susan and Quentin, are forced to flee their home in Jamestown, Virginia, and embark on a harrowing journey to find safety. Along the way, they must contend with the dangers of the nomadic tent community they join, as well as the hostile locals who are hostile to the influx of migrants.
To make matters worse, Marg is confronted by a figure from her past, a man who sexually assaulted her years ago. The story is driven by the emotional turmoil of Marg and her children, as they grapple with fear, sadness, anger, and despair. The setting is vivid and realistic, and the dynamic between Marg and her children is well-developed. However, the conclusion is somewhat abrupt and lacks a strong thematic takeaway. Despite this, the novel conveys the difficulty of surviving in a lawless, chaotic world and finding some kind of joy and purpose in life.
