Robby the taxi is the star of Lynn and Jonathan Greenberg’s picture book. He is a small yellow cab in the bustling city of Greensborough and has dyslexia, making it difficult for him to read the signs he drives under. To get around this, Robby memorizes the routes he takes and his employer, Creative Cab Company, is happy to oblige.
However, one day, his client Mr. Walter throws him a curveball by requesting a last-minute change in plans to the airport. The story conveys the importance of staying calm and coming up with creative solutions, but could have done more to build up the tension and its eventual resolution. Jonathan Greenberg’s watercolor illustrations are bright and childlike, reflecting Robby’s own personality. His facial expressions are easy to read, like when he is surprised by the route change. The book is also typeset in a dyslexic-friendly font. All in all, Robby’s story is a great example of how to stay positive and think outside the box.
