Catriona must reclaim her family’s land before it is forfeited to Caldwell, so she goes undercover as a governess to his daughter, enlisting the help of her former friend, Adrian, his son.
The novel is set in a world that evokes the history of missionary and settler expansion into the American West. It has a steady pace, entertaining characters, and an enjoyable plot. It also explores themes such as greed and vengeance, but at its core, it is a story about faith. Catriona must confront her fears and accept her destiny with grace and grit. The main characters are cued white, while the supporting cast is racially diverse.
