Sixteen-year-old Izzy Brown and her sidekick Elton Jones-Davies are on the case again, this time investigating a cold-case murder in a small town in North Carolina. Izzy, her mother, and her brother have recently moved from Florida to Ashes in the Pines, a touristy area in the North Carolina mountains, so that Izzy’s twin Axl can take advantage of a prep school football scholarship. Izzy gets a job at Fuller Farms, a summer camp for the wealthy, and soon her best friend Elton shows up. In 1992, Vance Fuller, the son of the wealthy Fuller family, was killed by arrows, and his father Wellington hires Izzy to find the killer.
Izzy and Elton must determine if archery instructor Buster McClellan is the murderer. As they investigate, they discover that Fuller Farms may not be what it seems. Izzy is a complex character, struggling with an opioid addiction and trying to keep it under control. There are many suspects, including three campers who were with Vance before his death. The real killer is eventually revealed in a thrilling conclusion. Izzy is a great teen curmudgeon and readers can look forward to another Izzy and Elton adventure.
