Max Stonecrop leads a seemingly peaceful life in Zürich, but his past is full of violence. When a Swiss cop friend asks him to help buy out a woman’s contract with sex traffickers, Max agrees. To get the money he needs, he must do a favor for his girlfriend Federica’s father, Gregor Ratzow. This involves taking part in a shipment to an e-waste disposal site to “launder” the profitable goods. Complicating matters is a CIA liaison officer and a menacing figure from Max’s past. In Goss’ thriller sequel, Max must juggle caring for his teenage daughters, the possibility that Lomi may be responsible for a murder, and dealing with a number of untrustworthy people. The narrative is full of tension, and the vivid details of the setting add to the atmosphere. Max is armed with a Glock 19M, but he worries that someone will try to take him out. As he navigates this dangerous situation, he must rely on his wits and the help of his friends.
