This anthology of fantasy tales, compiled and written by book enthusiasts, offers something for everyone. From classic to creepy, the stories all feature protagonists who are “half-human” in some way. Mason Adey’s “Dishonoured in Death” follows a half-fae, half-dwarf seeking revenge for her twin brother’s death, while Dane Cobain’s “The Band Gets Together” introduces Gröin Gönadsson, a 3 feet, 11 inches tall character who is “pretty sure” he is a vampire. P.M. Brown’s “Goatman’s Bridge” is an epistolary gem in which Marlon Timothy discovers his one eye has special sight.
David Wiley’s “The Defense of Bergond” features a “half-breed” named Tirlok struggling to prove himself in an epic battle scene. The violence in these stories is never overly graphic, and the tones range from funny to heartbreaking. This anthology is a great way to sample a variety of fantasy tales, and there is no weak link in the chain.
