Encouraging words for those on a journey of self-improvement, inspired by self-help teachings.
By Kemi Nekvapil ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 19, 2023
Nekvapil, an Australian career coach, has developed a set of principles to help people increase their self-worth and combat negative thoughts. She was born in England to Nigerian parents in the 1970s and was fostered by five different white families before she was 18. This was a common practice among Nigerian families, who wanted to give their children the best opportunities in life. As a Black woman, Nekvapil has had to fight against the prejudice she has faced and reject the urge to apologize or make herself small. She has gone from being an actor to a bakery entrepreneur and now lives in Australia with her husband and family. Her five ‘Power Principles’ are presence, ownership, wisdom, equality and responsibility. After each section, she provides questions to help readers reflect on the principles and how they can apply them to their own lives. Nekvapil also discusses the advantages of having real power, such as the power of money, the power to lead and the power of privilege. Finally, she encourages readers to put these principles into action and not be afraid of power. By drawing on the work of Elizabeth Gilbert and Martha Beck, Nekvapil provides a valuable resource for those looking to boost their self-worth.
