A significant addition to the ongoing discussion about the effects of technological advancement.
By Bill Raduchel ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 12, 2023
Raduchel, an American tech executive, has written a book that was inspired by conversations he had with British Member of Parliament Tom Tugendhat. The two met at a conference for industry leaders, and the author’s reflections on the impact of technology on society are the basis of the book. He acknowledges the benefits of technology, but also raises questions about its negative aspects. He argues that every blessing that technology promises comes with a curse, such as increased efficiency leading to job loss, and the tech industry’s tendency towards monopolistic hegemony. Raduchel’s analysis goes further, exploring how social interaction, media consumption, and problem-solving have been changed by technology. He suggests ways to temper the excesses of technology, such as targeted taxation, but acknowledges that this may not be enough to create a ‘New Technology State’. He provides a thoughtful and rigorous critique of this concept.
