Amia is a young girl with fair skin and brown hair who loves snow so much that she wished she could eat it all. Her wish comes true and she consumes all the snow in her town, leaving the townspeople furious. To prevent this from happening again, they demand that Amia stay indoors when it snows.
The following winter, a dangerous blizzard hits the town and no one can get out until a small child remembers Amia’s superpower. This picture book by Dee uses short, simple sentences and full-color illustrations by Das to tell a story of acceptance and the importance of using one’s passion for the good of the community. The village is depicted as having identical houses and streets, but the people are diverse with different skin tones and at least one resident wearing a hijab. Amia and her sister look very similar to each other but different from their father, suggesting they are a blended or adoptive family.
